TMJ Disorder & Treatment
Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) affect the jaw joints and surrounding muscles, often leading to jaw pain, headaches, clenching, grinding, and facial tension. These conditions can impact daily comfort, function, and quality of life.
Our approach focuses on reducing muscle strain, improving jaw function, and managing symptoms through conservative, personalized treatment options. In many cases, addressing muscle overactivity can significantly improve both comfort and function.
TMD Services
Jaw Muscle Pain & Tension Management
Conservative treatment options aimed at reducing facial muscle tightness, soreness, and fatigue related to overuse or parafunctional habits.
Custom Nightguards (Occlusal Guards)
Individually designed oral appliances that help protect teeth from grinding forces, reduce muscle strain, and support jaw joint stability during sleep.
Botox® / Dysport® for TMD Therapy
Botulinum toxin injections may be used to relax overactive jaw muscles associated with clenching, grinding, jaw pain, and tension headaches. This can help reduce muscle overuse and improve overall comfort and function. In select cases, treatment of the masseter muscles may also improve lower facial contour as a secondary aesthetic benefit.
Common Symptoms of TMD
- Jaw pain or tightness
- Clicking, popping, or locking of the jaw
- Headaches or migraines
- Teeth grinding or clenching (bruxism)
- Facial muscle fatigue or soreness
- Difficulty opening or closing the mouth comfortably
- Neck and facial tension
- Tooth sensitivity with temperature changes
- Tooth pain when biting or chewing
Our Approach to TMD Care
- Conservative, evidence-based treatment philosophy
- Focus on muscle function, joint health, and bite stability
- Personalized diagnosis and treatment planning
- Minimally invasive treatment options whenever possible
- Emphasis on long-term symptom relief and prevention of progression
